I know you're all sick of hearing me whine about the heat... but there is a silver lining. As of July 5th, we have our first gorgeous ripe Green Zebra. This is easily three weeks earlier than we've ever had a tomato in previous years. All of you in southern areas can stop laughing... I know some of you have had tomatoes for weeks already.
A tip about Green Zebras... they'll start to go a little yellow... this is a good sign, but they aren't quite there yet. As soon as the yellow begins to go a little gold/orange... pick it fast. They'll last on the counter for a few days at that point, but if you leave it on the plant too long, they get a little mealy.
Zebras aren't for those of you who want candy tomatoes... these have some acid and some zing... they really taste like tomatoes!
