Last month, every time I left my apartment in Storrs, I had to pass this crazy little hamburger joint. Now generally, I don't eat hamburgers that I haven't made myself. I like knowing what went into my burgers... especially what beef. But OMG! The aromas escaping from this joint were soooooo good, so old-fashioned, that I really was tempted.
But I didn't give in. And the minute I returned to Yonkers, I knew burgers would be on the menu.
I mixed the beef with some microplaned onion and garlic, then added lots of black pepper and a shot of sriracha. I cooked them in the time-honored family way: a blazing hot cast iron pan lightly dusted with kosher salt. On the side, we had steamed lima beans that I quickly sautéed in butter with garlic and lemon zest, along with our signature house tater tots.

I'm pretty sure these were better than the burger joint!!!
