Know-It-All (Glass Cooktops)

Yes, it's true.  I am a bit of a know-it-all (and yes, all of you who know me are saying "A bit???")...  So when I run smack into facts that contradict me... it can be hard to admit my error(s)...

But my time here in this lovely apartment in Storrs CT has provided me with two such smacks (so far)!  First, I hate... and I do mean hate... those silly glass cooktops... hard to clean... don't really work... some pots hate them, etc.  Well, this brand new apartment has them.  I was not happy... but as there was no choice, I set out to "deal with it."

And I discovered something:  1) These are a very new generation of cooktops, and many of my problems no longer exist, and 2) There is no better surface for cooking my beloved SLOW scrambled eggs... this cooktop has a setting that is so low I could easily cook these babies for 16 or 17 minutes.  It was honestly the best batch I've ever made.  I still love the control that comes only with a gas flame... but I've had to do some rethinking about these new fangled cooktops!

And the second "smack" came in the form of the housebrand butter from THE BIG Y... the local supermarket (Yes, there are a million jokes to be made... WHAT'S THE BIG ANSWER? etc.).  I have been a strong believer in the various butters I habitually use, but one single piece of toast with this local butter changed everything.

This tasted more like butter than any I've tasted in years with the exception of the premium priced European high-fat butters... and I am WAY too cheap to buy those for daily use.

So if you see me getting off the train at home when O Beautiful ends... and I'm dragging a gigantic cold pak BIG Y bag...
