For her wedding, my friend in L.A. was given a Meyer lemon tree for her yard. It very successfully survived the transplant and began to produce tons of fruit. (As a dyed-in-the-wool Yankee, I still can't get over the fact that people in California have trees IN THEIR YARDS that produce lemons, limes, grapefruits, avocados, etc. It's just not natural!!!)
One year, she had such an overabundance that she shipped me a whole box of gorgeous, sweet, perfumey Meyer lemons. I went crazy... light ice cream, sauces for chicken and fish, baked goods, vinaigrettes, lemon pasta and sauces...
But as the bounty started to dwindle, I had the psycho notion that I'd try to plant some seeds... maybe I could have year-round Meyers here in Yonkers. So I googled all of the relevant info I could find and set about sprouting some seeds. Seven germinated. We nursed those puppies all winter... but, in spite of all our best efforts, only one survived. But BOY did it survive!

No lemons yet, but I love that tree... and it has finally figured out how to go from a hot humid New York summer outside to a cold (I'm very cheap) dry house for the winter. I'll let you know if it ever flowers!
Addendum: the tree went wild this summer!
