The spider. Not the icky bug you want to squash. Not the icky musical. Not the comic books or the movies. But one of the great gadgets of all time...
I don't even think it needs to be called a gadget... it's just a great necessary kitchen tool.
Any Asian cookware store will have them. Most Western kitchen stores will have them too. The great thing about the spider is... you can remove vegetables from boiling water easily... you can take out pasta that's not quite done, and add it to the pot of sauce to finish cooking... and you will never again forget to save some pasta water for thinning and binding the sauce, because you didn't throw it down the drain! It's also great for removing things that you're deep-frying... and the weave is so open that the fat drains easily away. And of course, since it's me... you KNOW it's cheap!
