The Glut (The Perfect BLT)

We have just started to enter the dreaded tomato glut... that time in August in the Northeast when you have almost too many tomatoes... OK, I know that TOO MANY TOMATOES is "oxymoronic..."  you can't really have too many.  But after a few weeks, I start to weary of the nightly "What do I do with the tomatoes TONIGHT?" routine...

But we are still at the beginning!  So tonight is the first of many BLTs... my vote for the perfect sandwich.

We only had a loaf of ten-grain whole wheat bread... and that's NOT on the BLT program as far as I'm concerned.  So... surprise surprise... I decided to make some good old-fashioned hearty white loaves.  To thick slices of the bread, I add slices of remarkable Black Brandywines from our garden... dark acid-y, almost smokey-tasting... lettuce (and this is a good time to tell the foodies to take a flying leap, and Embrace the ICEBERG!), as much crisp bacon as will fit, and mayo.

(OK... FINE... you caught me...  I'm cheap, I had some leftover mâche, I used mâche.  It was good.  It wasn't as crispy as iceberg, obviously, but it was still pretty damn good.)

Anyway, any pretense of eating delicately should be jettisoned... let the juices fly!
